Launched in 2010, the current generation of the Mitsubishi Fuso Canter has been faithfully serving the light-duty segment for more than a decade now. Its most recent update was given back in 2020, which brought new 1.5-ton payload variants and an improvement of the 4P10 engine to the more powerful and efficient 4P10+.

This year, Mitsubishi Fuso has updated the Canter once more, and it made its official debut in its hometown of Japan on February 16, 2026. The updated Canter brings better fuel efficiency compared to the previous model, thanks to improvements that boost its environmental performance. Every variant now meets Japan’s FY2025 Fuel Efficiency Standards (JH25). Much of the improvement comes from a more efficient engine, with updates to the engine itself and better control of the variable geometry turbo system.

Aerodynamics may seem like the last consideration automakers pay attention to for trucks, but FUSO gave the Canter updates in this department as well. The truck now features a redesigned front bumper and door visors as standard that help reduce air resistance while driving. These small but meaningful tweaks work together with the engine upgrades to deliver better overall efficiency. Because of these changes, the new Canter exceeds the JH25 fuel economy standard by around five percent, while select models can achieve gains of up to 10 percent above the requirement. One example is the 4P10+ (T2) variant with a 123 hp engine paired with the DUONIC 2.0 dual clutch automated manual transmission.

Beyond efficiency, the new Canter also keeps up with modern safety and tech requirements. It now complies with the latest cybersecurity regulations, helping ensure that onboard systems remain protected. Drivers can also opt for a newly designed center display that supports Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, making it easier to stay connected and access navigation, calls, and media on the go.

These updates are exclusive to the Japanese market for now, but hopefully, they will make their way to other markets like the Philippines soon. For now, browse the Fuso Truck Guide to view the full specs, prices, and variants of Fuso’s truck lineup here in the country.
