Hino Motors Philippines Corporation (HMP) has officially named Ms. Maki Yamazaki as its new President. The appointment signals a new phase for the Japanese truck and bus maker's local arm, which has been a fixture in the Philippine commercial vehicle market for over five decades.

Ms. Yamazaki is no newcomer to the Hino fold. She has spent close to 20 years working her way through various roles within Hino Motors Ltd. (HML), building expertise across international business, marketing, and organizational development. Her career started in HML's Human Resources Division, but she quickly expanded her reach to cover major global territories including Europe, the Middle East and Africa, China, and ASEAN. She also did a stint at Hino Motor Sales Australia, where she worked as Executive Coordinator for the Brand Franchise Division.

Before landing the top post at HMP, Yamazaki was serving as Deputy General Manager of the Marketing Department for HML's ASEAN Division. That role put her right in the middle of the brand's regional growth strategy and gave her a front-row seat to how Southeast Asian markets, including the Philippines, actually operate.

That kind of background matters as the Philippine commercial vehicle segment is competitive, and customers here have specific demands when it comes to reliability, aftersales support, and total cost of ownership. HMP says Yamazaki will focus on strengthening the company's market presence, deepening engagement with its dealer network and customers, and continuing to deliver on what Hino calls its "Total Support" commitment.

Stepping down from the role is Mr. Shingo Sakai, who led HMP from January 2023 through December 2025. His tenure was a busy one. The company expanded its dealership network, reinforced its service philosophy, and marked its 50th anniversary in the Philippine market under his watch. HMP acknowledged his contributions as it made the transition.

Yamazaki now takes over with Mr. Vicente T. Mills, Jr. continuing to serve as Chairman. The expectation is that she will blend HMP's global standards with strategies that make sense on the ground here, keeping the focus on practical, dependable mobility solutions for Filipino businesses and industries.

For a brand that has spent half a century hauling freight and moving people across the archipelago, the leadership change looks less like a disruption and more like a deliberate step forward.
