Mercedes-Benz Trucks has introduced a Safety Truck based on the battery-electric eActros 600, showcasing its most advanced active and passive safety systems to date. The truck demonstrates how the brand’s newest technologies can prevent common road accidents involving trucks, including rear-end collisions, lane departures, and blind spot incidents.
The Safety Truck features a new electronics platform that gathers data from six sensors, four short-range radars on the sides, one long-range radar in front, and a multifunction windshield camera. Together, these provide 270-degree coverage around the vehicle. The system processes information up to 20 times faster than older models, allowing for quicker safety responses and automated braking when needed.
One of the good things about this is the Active Brake Assist 6, which can automatically stop the truck at speeds of up to 60 km/h when it detects pedestrians or cyclists, and up to 80 km/h for vehicles ahead. A new version, Active Brake Assist 6 Plus, will roll out in 2026, extending its reaction capability to 90 km/h for vehicles and 60 km/h for pedestrians and cyclists.
Another feature is Attention Assist 2, which uses an infrared camera to monitor the driver’s alertness by tracking blinking, yawning, and head position. If signs of fatigue are detected, the system issues alerts and suggests taking a break. All recorded data stays inside the truck and is automatically deleted after 15 minutes.
For added protection during turns, the Active Sideguard Assist 2 monitors both sides of the truck. If the driver doesn’t react to visual or audio warnings while turning right, the system can automatically brake to a complete stop at speeds up to 20 km/h, preventing collisions with cyclists or pedestrians.
At the front, Front Guard Assist keeps an eye on the area right in front of the cab, covering a range from 0.8 to 4 meters ahead. It alerts the driver when it detects obstacles, which is especially useful in tight spaces or when starting from a stop.
The Safety Truck also includes Stability Control Assist and Trailer Stability Control Assist, systems that reduce the risk of skidding or rolling over during sharp turns or sudden maneuvers. These features apply individual wheel braking and adjust power output to help keep the truck stable, even when carrying heavy loads.
With these innovations, Mercedes-Benz Trucks shows how digital safety systems are shaping the future of transport. The Safety Truck combines advanced sensors, AI-driven assistance, and automatic controls to help drivers handle the challenges of real-world roads more safely.
