The Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) held a ceremony late in October with the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) which provided the bureau with 35 Hino fire trucks for different local government units in the Philippines. The trucks will give local government units (LGUs) more firefighting capabilities.

The turnover happened on October 18, 2022, in the second half of last month. There, officials from the BFP and the DILG were in attendance for the event that was held at the BFP’s National Headquarters.

"Through these fire trucks which will be distributed to 35 fire stations in key cities and municipalities all over the country, we will be able to bolster the BFP's capability to respond to fire incidents in their communities. We want to give our people a sense of safety and security."

As for the specifications and models of the trucks in question, the Hino 500 Series 1625 (FG8J) was specifically chosen for the task of becoming a fire truck thanks to its 240 hp and 716 Nm torque output as well as its reliability and durability through demanding situations. Outfitted for firefighting duty, the trucks come with a 4,000-liter water tank capacity and a complete set of modern firefighting instruments that are in line with the Philippine fire service standards of today.

On top of that, Hino also pledged their Total Support philosophy for these emergency vehicles, with maximum uptime and reduced costs assured. As emergency vehicles, these Hino 500 units will be expected to perform under duress, and the brand's 360-degree service will see to it that these trucks continue performing optimally.

The reason why these trucks are going into service is because of the BFP’s modernization program, which wishes to see an ideal one-to-one ratio of fire trucks for every city or municipality. The LGUs concerned include CALABARZON which will get five trucks, Ilocos which will get four, Bicol will get four, and four will also go to Eastern Visayas regions each. Three each for Central Luzon, Central Visayas, and Northern Mindanao, while Western Visayas and Zamboanga Peninsula will get two units each, then finally Cagayan Valley, Davao, Caraga, and NCR will get one each.
