Daimler Truck with its subsidiary Mitsubishi Fuso Truck and Bus Corporation (MFTBC) will reportedly unveil the next-generation Fuso eCanter all-electric light-duty truck this September. The launch will happen at the IAA Transportation 2022 in Hanover, Germany from September 20 to 25, 2022. It will also mark the European debut of the eCanter.

As is the case with the current model, the new Fuso eCanter is based on the diesel-powered Canter. It is expected to be an emissions-free companion for a wide variety of business purposes. A range of body applications will enable everything from inter-city logistics to towing and construction services.

The eCanter could play a pivotal role in Daimler Truck’s mission to sell only carbon-neutral vehicles in Europe, North America, and Japan beginning in 2039. Its latest iteration results from over five years of research and development with contributions from global customer operations. It’s expected that the new eCanter will be better than its predecessor in many categories, including range, practicality, and overall reliability.

The current Fuso eCanter has already made waves as a capable electric light-duty truck. It’s available in several variants with various body options, covering customer requirements from 4.25 up to 8.55 tons. Designed primarily for in-city use, the eCanter does well at reducing noise and vibration compared to its combustion engine counterparts.

Fuso says there are now hundreds of eCanter units operating across the globe. It is currently being sold in 13 markets. The electric truck has covered around 5 million miles or around 8 million kilometers across Europe, the United States, Japan, Australia, and New Zealand.

With the impending introduction of the next-generation Fuso eCanter, it appears Daimler Truck is fully committed to transitioning its business to sustainability. While only the diesel-powered Canter is available in the Philippines as of today, there is still hope that the new eCanter will be sold in the country down the line.
